Google is investing $2.1 million (₦3 billion) directly into developing Nigeria’s AI talent.
The funding will be distributed through five Nigerian organisations to build AI talent, strengthen innovation, and improve digital safety nationwide.
FATE Foundation & AIMS (African Institute for Mathematical Sciences): Embedding advanced AI curricula into Nigerian universities to strengthen technical training and expand the talent pool at the source.
African Technology Forum (ATF): Running an AI Innovation Challenge to help developers build real-world, market-ready AI products, not just theory.
Junior Achievement Africa: Expanding online safety education for young people as they navigate a rapidly changing digital world.
CyberSafe Foundation: Strengthening cybersecurity capabilities across public institutions to support safe AI adoption.
Each organisation is set to target a specific core gap in the country’s digital ecosystem.
This strategic distribution means the funding doesn’t end at the top; it reaches the classroom, the developer community, the youth, and the public sector, tackling Nigeria’s AI talent shortage from multiple angles.
